Learn more about me

I’m Davy Kent. I live in Vancouver, British Columbia and I’ve been involved with writing for as long as I can remember.

From writing stories for extra credit as a kid to editing papers for college students while still in high school, I have always been intrigued by the complexities of crafting well-written prose, whether it be creatively or formally.

It was a long journey to figuring out that editing fiction was what I felt most fulfilling. I have been editing fiction almost exclusively since 2019. Fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and thrillers have been the most satisfying genres for me.

I am a voracious reader of fiction. Who isn’t? I try to read a minimum of seventy-five books a year, almost always within the genres I work with. I have a steady finger on the pulse of the industry and the latest conventions in these genres.

What’s more is that I hold a holistic view of the editing process: archaic rules do not interest me, and my first and foremost priority is giving your readers an experience they’re comfortable with and consider familiar.

Besides reading, I am an avid player of video games (grand strategy are my favourites, usually), an overenthusiastic consumer of television shows, and a writer myself. My loves for writing fall in science fiction and fantasy. I think I have been writing in either genre for at least sixteen years. It’s been a while.

Before becoming disabled, I loved swimming and hiking; in fact, one of my fondest memories of age fifteen was breaking my hike distance record of forty-two kilometres!

Do you like tabletop roleplaying games? I’m an editor for dScryb, a company that produces digital boxed text for fantasy-based TTRPGs. We take much inspiration from D&D 5e, but we are inherently homebrew friendly and system agnostic. Check us out sometime.

If you work with me, you are guaranteed someone who possesses excellent working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, the conventions of your chosen genre, and the complicated art of balancing author preference with reader tolerability. Let’s work together on polishing your manuscript into the best it can be. Or as my tagline says over on the front page… Let’s set flame to ambition.
